New Music – Bellwether – ‘Blind Anthem’

by fromthetigersmouth

I’ve known the boys in Bellwether since before they had a name, let alone a soundcloud account, so it’s nice to see them finally moving into the 21st century with their debut release.

As first efforts go, Bellwether have come on strong with ‘Blind Anthem’.

With an intense drum intro, and a guitar riff reminiscent of the Strokes, I’m going to be honest, I was expecting something much darker and was rather caught off guard with how the track develops, and pleasantly so.

There’s a lot going on in ‘Blind Anthem’ – so much so that I can’t really place it under a definitive category. There’s an almost garage-rock/clean-cut indie feel going on. You can hear a lot of genres being thrown into the mix.

What we get is something that’s both energetic and chilled, it’s rather hard to explain, but in no way a negative.

With Bellwether we find a band freshly popped out of the oven, and as such, they need time to breathe and expand.

There are some wonderful things going on in this track, the harmonies are bloody lovely, but I’m intrigued to see how they develop in the coming months sound-wise.

Nevertheless, with ‘Blind Anthem’ you can see they’re heading in the right direction.
